Stenosis and Degenerative Disc Disease
It’s the day before Thanksgiving! Here at DISC of Louisiana, we’re highlighting a few of our favorite patient testimonials. These special individuals shared their stories with DISC of Louisiana — and now that they’ve successfully undergone spine surgery, they are able to focus on family, friends and good health, instead of spine pain. This morning’s story features coach Rick Mauldin’s fight against stenosis and degenerative disc disease.
Spotlighting our wonderful patients, their stories and their contributions is our way of thanking them for putting their future in our hands—and wishing continued health and happiness to all.
As a high school baseball coach with more than 500 wins and multiple state championship titles under his belt, Coach Rick Mauldin has touched countless lives and enriched the Slidell community with his leadership. But at one point, he seriously questioned his ability to continue his job due to stenosis and degenerative disc disease.
“Agonizing and debilitating” pain prevented him from batting, throwing a ball or even getting dressed without intense suffering. After minimally invasive spine surgery, he feels a new gratitude for the skills many coaches take for granted—and he moves like a new man.
Although now retired from coaching Mauldin said of life after surgery, “I was all over the campus, feeling younger than my students. I felt like I could coach for another 10 years.”
Stories like Coach Mauldin’s are why we’re passionate about the work we do at DISC of Louisiana. We thank Coach Mauldin for trusting Dr. Shamieh and the staff at DISC of Louisiana, to help him continue to enjoy is life, free from pain caused by stenosis and degenerative disc disease.
