Don Dubuc – Thanksgiving Testimonial

Degenerative Disc Disease and Spondylolisthesis

It’s the afternoon before Thanksgiving! Here at DISC of Louisiana, we’re highlighting a few of our favorite patient testimonials. These outstanding individuals shared their stories with DISC of Louisiana — and now that they’ve successfully undergone spine surgery, they are able to focus on family, friends and good health, instead of spine pain. This morning’s story features journalist Don Dubuc’s fight against degenerative disc disease and spondylolisthesis.

Spotlighting our phenomenal patients, their stories and their contributions is our way of thanking them for putting their future in our hands—and wishing continued happiness and health to all.

You may have seen sportsman and outdoor journalist Don Dubuc on televison, read his articles in the paper, or heard him on the radio at some point in his career, which spans 30 years (and counting). As an outdoor journalist, Don’s work requires him to hunt and fish every week. Years of physical exertion take a toll on anybody, but Don powered through it, relying on ibuprofen and painkillers to treat his lower back pain. But when his pain prevented him from playing with his 3-year-old granddaughter, he knew it required serious intervention.

Don’s lower back was the result of a series of problems that converged at the same point in his lower spine, including degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis (Greek for “slipping spine”), a herniated disc and stenosis (a narrowing of the opening in the spine). Dr. Shamieh performed a minimally invasive back surgery, and the relief was almost instant.

Now Don is back doing the work that both he and his readers love.

“Two to three days later, I was out in the woods climbing trees, riding a tractor, out in a boat and feeling great,” Don says with a grin.

Stories like Don Dubuc’s are why we’re passionate about the work we do at DISC of Louisiana. We thank Don for trusting Dr. Shamieh and the staff at DISC of Louisiana, to help him continue to enjoy his life, free from pain caused by degenerative disc disease and spondylolisthesis.
